Direct cremation is becoming an increasingly popular choice for families who want a simple, dignified, and affordable farewell. Without the complexity of a traditional funeral service, it focuses on what matters most respectfully caring for your loved one and giving families the freedom to remember them in their own way.
Here’s a clear, step-by-step guide to how our process works.
1. Initial Contact and Arrangement
The process begins when you contact Clarity Cremations your direct cremation provider. This can happen at any time day or night. We will guide you through the necessary steps, collect essential information, and explain pricing upfront.
At this stage, you’ll:
- Provide personal details of the deceased
- Location of deceased
- Complete required documentation
We allow arrangements to be completed online or over the phone, making the process as simple and stress-free as possible.
2. Transfer into Care
Once arrangements are confirmed, your loved one is respectfully transferred into care. This may be from a hospital, aged care facility, or private residence.
3. Legal Documentation and Permits
Before cremation can take place, certain legal requirements must be met. These include:
- Medical cause of death certification
- Completion of cremation permits by a medical doctor
- Signature of Application for cremation by Applicant / Executor / NOK.
- Information Required for the Official Death Certificate from the registry of birth’s death’s and marriages.
We coordinate and handle all of this on your behalf, ensuring everything complies with local laws and regulations.
4. Preparation for Cremation
Unlike traditional funerals, direct cremation does not include embalming or a viewing. The focus is on simplicity.
Your loved one is placed in a suitable, respectful cremation container. Identification procedures are carefully followed to ensure accuracy and peace of mind at every step.
5. The Cremation
The cremation takes place at a licensed crematorium. The process is carried out with strict procedures and care.
After cremation, the remains are processed into ashes (also called cremated remains) and placed into a basic standard cremation urn.
6. Return of Ashes
The ashes are returned to the family, typically this is done done via:
- Personal collection from crematorium
- Registered post
From here, you have complete freedom to decide how to honour your loved one.
7. Personal Memorial (Optional)
One of the key benefits of direct cremation is flexibility. Without the pressure of organising a traditional funeral immediately, families can plan a memorial that feels right for them.
This could include:
- A private gathering at home
- A celebration of life at a meaningful location
- Scattering ashes in a special place
- Creating keepsakes or memorial items
There’s no set timeline you can take your time and create something truly personal.
Why Families Choose Direct Cremation
Direct cremation appeals to many for a few simple reasons:
- Affordability – significantly lower cost than traditional funerals
- Clarity – no complex arrangements or time pressures
- Flexibility – freedom to memorialise in your own way
- Dignity – respectful care without unnecessary extras
